Xolo Launches 4- inch quadcore Q500 Smartphone for INR 7999/- in India

Xolo expands its Q lineup of phones in India with the new midrange Q500 smartphone. It joins the slew of budget phones that have popped up this month and which will battle it out in this popular price segment for first-tme buyers. The Q500 is priced at Rs 7,999, but there's no word on when it will be available in stores.

Unlike the Q600 or the most recent mid-range Q2000 that feature Mediatek chipsets, the Q500 comes armed with a Qualcomm processor. It is powered by a 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 with Adreno 203, coupled with 1GB of RAM. The dual-SIM (GSM + GSM) smartphone sports a 4-inch display, and runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

Yet another sub-Rs 10,000 phone

Here’s a quick look at the specifications of the Xolo Q500:

  • 4-inch display with 480 x 800 pixels of resolution, and pixel density of 233ppi
  • Dual-SIM, 3G, Wi-Fi
  • Bluetooth, GPS with A-GPS
  • 5-megapixel rear autofocus camera with LED flash, VGA front-facing camera
  • 4GB onboard storage, expandable up to 32GB via microSD card slot

Looking at the above specifications, we can tell the phone is not all that powerful. And Xolo has managed to squeeze in a large 2600mAh battery, which promises up to 17 hours of talk time and up to 520 hours of standby time.

In terms of software, you will find some Xolo-made customations and there's a new app called X-TransPic that lets you take a picture of Hindi text and get an instant translation to English. The app can also read back the translated text. Xolo says X-TransPic is coming to all its phones powered by a Snapdragon chipset.
